- Play machines with a certified payout of at least 97%. Many casinos can be misleading on their slot payout signage – make sure a specific payout percentage is claimed for the machine you are playing. The Stratosphere in Las Vegas is one good place to find 98% payout slots.
- Sign up for a slots club or players club card and use it when you play.
- Set a limit on your play – a win or loss limit, or simply a time limit. The longer you play, the more money you'll lose. If you do win any money, set it aside and don't wager it.
- When playing progressive slots or large jackpot games, always play the maximum number of coins, and only play machines where the jackpot is high.
- It's generally better to play a higher denomination machine, as they pay out better than lower denomination machines. For example, a typical quarter slot on the Strip pays out around 92%, while a dollar slot pays out 94%.
